The UKLA was created in memory of Dr. Ulrich Kogelschatz, one of the founders of the HAKONE Symposium in 2016. It is intended to honor the awardee for his/her significant contribution to basic research on high pressure low temperature plasma chemistry and/or for the use of this knowledge in applications. The award winner should be a globally well-recognized research personality who has made significant long-term contributions to the development of the research field.

The previous award winners are:

2024: Prof. Giorgio Dilecce

For his excellent research in the field of diagnostics of non-thermal plasmas at elevated pressures and his outstanding contribution to the understanding of these discharges

2022: Dr. Françoise Massines

For her outstanding contribution to the understanding of uniform barrier discharge regimes and its application in surface deposition

2018: Prof. Akira Mizuno

For his outstanding contributions to the application of electrostatic and non-thermal plasma technologies in health and environmental protection.
